Last summer was tough for me mentally, spiritually and financially. I was fed up with my church home, I was getting caught up with folks with dead-end motives, I didn't have a car to get around, I was experiencing some trauma with the kid and I was truly over it. All I had to rely on was my faith, and I struggled with that terribly. Even at my lowest, some dope stuff was still happening...because God is always graceful. I remember being in Toronto by myself, after speaking on a panel, I returned to my room and meditated on what God was trying to do for me. That meant folks had to be removed, my perspective needed to shift, and I ultimately needed to let God work. I cried like a baby in that hotel room, then I freshened up and hit the town with some new friends and truly enjoyed my last night there. I came back to STL rejuvenated, not worried about the ashies I shouldn't have been bothered with in the first place and open to a better lifestyle. By last fall I found myself in a fellowship that saved the business, being contacted by producers that have changed my child's life (and the entire family...they just dunno the level yet), and I started dating a man that challenged everything I thought about dating (and eventually shifted my heart and mindset in a way I never imagined) in a good way. This post ended up longer than expected, but I say all of this to say, it may suck right now. Like really feels like it sucks. Cry, kick, scream, but don't forget those who are in your corner, ask for help, be graceful to yourself and don't throw the towel in. Someone's vouching for you at a table you haven't sat at just yet. 💙
I was asked today, “You work 24/7 huh?” And my answer was absolutely a yes. Organizing these monthly meetups never feel like work. I’m grateful for everyone that believes in us to continuously support us for 3 years and beyond. Today’s meetup was a success! #coolbrosread 🤩📚 @booksnbrosllc

So. Love language is real. Paying attention is key for success in anything, love included. I didn’t know about Tyler Perry’s Grand Opening until I saw pics online today and everyone’s social media feedback. As I scrolled on IG, I looked up the location and it was 13 min from our hotel. I told my boyfriend like “Wow. And it’s close!” Before I could take another breath, he asked, “Wanna go?” And here we are, after midnight, while it’s super peaceful, taking in this black excellence. And he didn’t even know this was a step closer to striking a long term goal off of my bucket list. I don’t get too mushy but this is a moment I have no problem being mushy about and cherishing forever. Thank you babe for paying attention to all of my needs, interests and pushing me beyond my comfort level. P. S. Keep me from getting on one knee y’all. Thanks. 🥴🤣🥰🥺

I was gonna wait to post this but I’ve been sitting on this news for over a week now! lol! I have been accepted on the Board of Directors for the @fyifergyouth Ferguson Youth Initiative - FYI!!! If you’ve known me for the last 5 years or been connected with me online that long, you know how much FYI means to me. As a young adult I was pushing through daily trying to raise a young child, working 2-3 jobs while in college full time. It was hard making time to be apart of things in the community when I could barely make ends meet. Unfortunately, when Mike Brown got killed, that’s when I was snatched out of my excuses and pushed to stop talking and start doing. I found out about FYI after attending a Heal Ferguson event. I originally signed up (thanks to the late Gail Babcock) to help teens with resumes, mentoring, etc. Then I couldn’t turn away. Sidney joined me at volunteer meetings faithfully. We then learned the importance of community. FYI began to feel like family. Dwayne, Wesley, and even Aaron lol, you all have seen my growth first-hand from 2014 to now. It’s almost been a year and I’ve seen so much maturity in our relationship. Thanks for loving me and everything that’s in this 5’2/Fine too packaged deal. Idk why I didn’t expect flowers yesterday but I didn’t. I always put Sidney and the Bookclub before me but you took time to acknowledge my importance in it all as well. Thank you for that and I’m learning to put me first as well. Love you to the moon and back. 🥰 #mcm

I made a new accountability partner while away at #NABJ19. She’s on the east coast and I’m here in the Midwest and we realize we face similar challenges. When juggling so many hats, it’s important to keep your mental, spiritual and physical in check. - I started going back to church on a regular basis, like physically being in the church and not only streaming. It’s important to be in a space with like minded people. The presence of the Holy Spirit strengthens me like no other. - I saw a doctor last week to get my body in check. I see my therapist this week for an unbiased revelation. - Today I visited the Cahokia Mounds for the first time and truly enjoyed being one with nature for a minute. Thankful for my new friend who gave me the push to get out. I’m only working on me today. Self care, however you see fit, is the best care. 💚
Sometimes people see more in us than we see in ourselves. If you listen to any of the 3-5 episodes I’ve been on of #hennynightspodcast, you’ll hear @jwhitetheprez refer to me as his manager. Then you’ll hear me roll my eyes 🙄🤣. . . . But what he saw was my growth not only as a friend but as a Communications Professional. Now we’re here scheduling monthly sessions to build our brands organically. We give each other inspiration and ideas because as Capricorn’s, we are full of ambition. . . . Clarity has been hitting me lately. I feel like I should apologize who’ve wanted to invest in me as a PR rep for years and I was like “Naw I’m good.” Stuff hits me late. As I’m working in a place that’s structured differently than how I’ve operated on my own, I now see my strengths. For 7 years I’ve written thought provoking pieces and interviewed some interesting humans in my day. Within those 7 years I learned: Website development Social media management/marketing Photography skills Graphic Design skills Public Speaking For 3 years I’ve invested all of that and more into my child’s brand. I originally built his website, I’ve managed his social media, I schedule his speaking gigs, I coach him prior to, manage all media inquiries and cherish those relationships. Meanwhile this whole time I just thought I was being a good mom. But I had to be a mom too! And do stuff like feed him and spend time. 🥴🤣 Don’t mind me. I’m just reflecting. And grateful for those who not only see my strengths but respect my worth.
And then there’s date night. 😌🥳 I threw on his hat to act like I care about baseball eem though it’s not a cardinals hat. This food and seats nice tho. 🤸🏾‍♂️🤣
