A Dream Deferred | Why Entrepreneurs Fail

So it is obvious that I haven’t blogged in a while. I normally try to at least once a week. But life happens right?

But I have noticed something else that has affected my ambition. Discredit. I have been told that I don’t give myself as much credit as I deserve. Is that me being humble or just being my own worst critic? I think a lot of people are guilty of either or. Which challenging yourself or criticizing yourself isn’t bad, as long as it’s constructive. But as dreamers, doers, entrepreneurs and hustlers we can’t let our goals get away from us. Don’t allow nay sayers to get you down. Always keep in mind what gave you the ambition to go after your dream in the first place. I have noticed people who’ve started companies with so much ambition but once an obstacle takes place, that ambition slowly spirals down and turns into a dream deferred.

A Dream Deferred

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

-Langston Hughes

1.put off (an action or event) to a later time; postpone.

Don’t allow your dream to defer due to material things.

Most successful entrepreneurs have had several doors close in their face until they reached one that was open for them.

If a successful business owner tells you that they have never been shut out, their lying. It happens. It is growth. It gives you a reason to go harder. It gives you ammo to prove others wrong. Even more, it gives you ammo to outdo yourself. Speak greatness into existence. If you want to help the community, say it. Tell people. Reach out for help. If you want to start a Fortune 500 company, say it. Now of course you are sensitive about sharing your dream. Understood, I am that way. But whatever great ideas you have, write down! If you are one with faith, pray about it. Trust and believe when you speak and pray on it, He will make it happen. God hears what is spoken and also what is silent. Just don’t allow the enemy to drown out the volume of your ambition.

If you want change, it starts with you.

-Surround yourself with like minded people.

-Filter out your newsfeed on social media, meaning if you’re only looking for positivity, delete those who only highlight negativity and drama.

-Listen to positive, go getter music (Artists like Lacrae, Thisl, Aloha Misho, Common, Tye Tribbet, Mary Mary, J Cole, Tiffany Foxx…those are a few of my faves)

Understand that everyone won’t agree with you and won’t support you. And that is perfectly fine because there’s plenty of opportunity for others to be in your corner. You can’t control how others will react towards you and your dream but you can control your reactions and your image of not only yourself but your brand. And that is what is most important.
