• Mind of a Man Monday: Lou Mentality, Spiritual Growth and Brotherhood

Phillipians 4:8 Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

It’s been a season of growth as I’m now 28 with a new job on the horizon that will shift things for me financially which is always a good thing. This is an important time in life for me because the things I’ve been developing will start to come to fruition as time plays out during chapter 28.

Speaking of development. I was real glad to J Cole dropped his new album this past weekend which hasn’t stopped being in rotation.

A song that stuck out to me was Ville Mentality. I heard a brother crying out for help as he sees his city hurt while he still goes through his own trials and tribulations in the rap game and life period. This made me think of my city of St Louis. (Pun intended as you see in the title)

With all the expansion and renovation they doing in the city, its still like the wild wild west all around. It’s so many people, especially millennials, dying for no apparent reason. I wish one day people would realize life’s worth. Prisons are constantly being built to make the black man extinct. Why contribute to that?

As J Cole said in the song, “How long can we survive with this mentality?” I don’t even like guns but I know I will have to be proactive than reactive. Many men have the feeling that we need to get strapped sooner than later just because it’s real in the field and I hate it has to be like that. I feel scared at times, but then I always realize that God didn’t put me hear to be afraid of anything or anyone.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

I’m challenging myself and men all around the world reading this to continue stepping up to the plate and leading at whatever it is your great at. Don’t turn away when you see your brother making a risky choice that could altar his destiny. Don’t leave a brother out here to fend for himself alone. We need one another. It’s so critical right now. My mentality is to help as many as I can while breath is still in me keeping me on this earth. What is your mentality moving forward? Be real with yourself in the answer you give. Change gone come y’all.
