1st Corinthians 13: 4-6
Love is patient and kind, love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way. It is not irritable or resentful, it dose not rejoice at wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.
So not too long ago, I was at a dedication for a great man named Mr. Henderson, who passed away from my high school here in St Louis. During the ceremony his older brother spoke and something that stuck out to me during his speech. He stated that he’d been married to his wife for 47 years. She did the dedication painting for my school which turned out pretty good as you see.
I sat back and thought to myself, “How I can make it 50 years?” With my parents only making it in marriage for 2 years and not seeing good marriages last in my family, I’m always cautious on how I speak on the subject. As a man I know how important raising a good family in this society is and being ready for that takes time and assurance.
I wish I could tell women when men will be ready to settle down and ride it out for 40 plus years, but I don’t have the answers sway lol. I know for me personally it’s taken much personal development to respect the words like marriage and relationship and monogamy. I know for sure I’ll be great husband to my wife and excellent father to my children because I want to break the cycle that was started.
I’m definitely not the one to give relationship advice because I’m a single man finding my way, but one thing I’ve noticed with the couples young and old that’s been holding it down for a long time as in years is that they stay in their own lane with theirs. Not facebooking every problem or faking the funk. I’m definitely an advocate for that for sure. At the end of the day I feel when a man and woman have built that bond on their own terms it can last longer and stronger families will be made.
Everyone has their own story but I know the way the Duncans professed their love this weekend at this surprise wedding for his fiance, I want that type of bond with the woman I’ll one day marry.
Congrats on their union. This is definitely something the world needed to go viral…LOVE.
